The Green Honeycreeper Chlorophanes spiza, a neotropical bird is a green tanager that measures 17 cm (6.9 in) and weighs 17 g. One of the most distinctive features of this species is its slender, slightly decurved bill, which is mostly honey yellow with a yellow and black culmen. The male is a brighter, blue green in color, with a broad black mask. Its chin is also black. The female has a grayish bill and the mandible is dull yellow. She has yellowish-green plumage in the upperparts, paler in the inferior parts, and darker eyes than the male. Nest built only by the female. Two white eggs with brown spots per clutch. Feeds on nectar, fruits, and insects.
El Mielero Verde mide unos 14 cm (5.5”) de largo y pesa alrededor de 17 g. Este colibrí tiene un pico largo, fuerte y curvo, mandíbula superior oscura y la inferior amarilla. La cola es relativamente corta y tiene patas grises. El macho presenta un plumaje azul-verde con la cabeza negra. De cola y alas oscuras pero con plumas de bordes verdes. El ojo es de iris rojo. Las hembras y los juveniles presentan un plumaje totalmente verde, amarillento en la zona del vientre. El ojo de las hembras es más oscuro que el de los machos. Se lo encuentra en zonas tropicales húmedas. Es nectí, frugí o insectívoro.
